Integrated Vector Management

MVCAC Member Agencies Utilize Science-Based Integrated Vector Management (IVM) to Protect Public Health

Integrated Vector Management (IVM) is an evidence-based, data-driven decision making tool used to suppress vector-borne diseases. IVM prioritizes surveillance of mosquito populations, removal of breeding sites, public outreach, and education campaigns. IVM incorporates various tools to target mosquitoes at different life stages which can include chemical control. When implementing a control program, districts continually evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, risks, and resource cost of each type of intervention to determine what combination in a given area is most appropriate for the current risk posed to public health from mosquitoes and the pathogens they transmit.

MVCAC members are encouraged to use the IVM whitepaper and fact sheet in their outreach and education efforts to explain the complexity and importance of mosquito control and the rationale behind different control strategies that are used. One hard copy is being provided to all MVCAC members. Members are welcome to purchase additional copies or print the documents themselves. Please contact Rachel Hickerson at mvcac@mvcac.org if you would like order additional printed copies.
