KINGS COUNTY, Calif. — The first positive human case of West Nile (WNV) has now been reported in Kings County, the first in the entire state of California this year.
According to the Kings County Department of Public Health, they reported the positive case on Tuesday to the California Department of Public Health.
FOX26 first reported on July 5, about the positive samples the Kings Mosquito Abatement District (KMAD) had collected throughout Hanford, Armona and Corcoran. Out of 46 samples, nine came back positive.
Health officials say people who have been infected often experience flu-like symptoms but elderly people can see more severe and dangerous signs that may require medical attention.
Those severe symptoms can be neurological, fever, headache, stiff neck, rash, joint pain, disorientation, and interference with consciousness.
