As mosquitoes continue to spread throughout the state, mosquito control professionals are increasingly using innovative technologies to prevent the spread of serious diseases and protect people from their painful and itchy bites. One innovative control method is using drones to optimize field operations and enable mosquito control agencies to easily detect mosquito habitats and make precise control treatments.
Other control methods, such as Sterile Insect Techniques, are needed to control invasive Aedes mosquitoes which often lay their eggs in small water sources in people’s front yards, backyards, and patios — areas where mosquito control agencies can’t easily inspect. These mosquitoes, which have become resistant to commonly used insecticides, are rapidly spreading across California even though they are not native to the state and don’t have a place in our ecosystem.
Innovative technologies, such as drones and Sterile Insect Techniques, are needed more than ever to protect the health and well-being of Californians.
